Patient Stories: Javier
Javier, 19, is a cancer survivor. He is missing his right leg from above his knee, amputated after battling osteosarcoma. That was 7 years ago. Javier has used a prosthesis before, but it was uncomfortable and he grew out of it two years ago. Since then, he has been using crutches to get around, but they can be tiring to use all day at school. He swims, bikes, and also plays soccer, so it’s frustrating for Javier when he is left out of things from his friends, because they just assume he can’t do them. ROMP aims to change that. After getting fit with his new prosthesis, Javier was walking like a pro, and soon even running on a blade all in the same day. In the future, he hopes to continue running and join the Climbing for ROMP team. There isn’t anything this guy can’t do!
